Barnes Maze (1 Maze)
The Barnes maze is a popular test for assessing spatial learning and memory in rats and mice. The test involves making the surface of the maze aversive using bright illumination. The animal is given the opportunity to escape the maze surface by crawling through the correct hole, under which is located a “safe box.” The amount of time required for the animal to locate the safe box is measured by the researcher.
